With the season of giving upon us, we're spotlighting the spirit of generosity that the CHFA team brings with them to work every day.
CHFA Gives Back
With the season of giving upon us, The Intersect is taking a pause from our regularly scheduled content to highlight the generosity of CHFA’s employees. Limited not only to the holidays, CHFA staff are dedicated to embodying our agency’s values of serving communities throughout the year. One such example is the fundraising facilitated by our Employee Activity Committee (EAC). Since its founding, the EAC has been committed to fundraising for non-profits and charities each month, selecting organizations to support from employee suggestions. In the past ten years, the EAC’s monthly fundraisers have raised almost $26,000 for over 50 different causes. The EAC has also been crucial in mobilizing resources in times of disaster, raising funds and collecting donations in the wake of the 2011 earthquake in Japan, Sandy Hook, the Boston Marathon bombing, and numerous other humanitarian crises that have affected Connecticut and beyond.
Aside from monetary contributions, CHFA staff aren’t afraid to grab some hammers and nails to advance our organization’s mission to provide affordable homeownership across the state. Each year, CHFA teams up with a Connecticut-based chapter of Habitat for Humanity to sponsor a “Build Day” where employees don their hard hats and work with Habitat on the construction of a new home.
Around the holidays, CHFA staff step up to give back to the community by fundraising for several different causes. Just this year, after the passing of an employee’s veteran father, staff contributed to the organization Wreaths Across America in his honor. Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,500 locations, remembering the honoring our fallen veterans.
Additionally, staff have raised money and collected toys in support of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. The Toys for Tots program distributes toys to less fortunate children at Christmas. With of the generosity of staff, CHFA has collected hundreds of toys for children which are distributed to children across Connecticut.
Each year, CHFA staff participate in the Connecticut State Employees’ Campaign for Charitable Giving, which allows staff to contribute to non-profit charities. Contributions made by staff make possible a wide range of vital services such as shelters for the homeless, protection of the environment, research for cures of diseases, care for both children and seniors. In 2019, the campaign raised $551,000 across state agencies including CHFA, benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations.
The staff at CHFA are proud to serve and support the residents of Connecticut, and wish everyone a safe and healthy holiday season!
