    What will assistance payments cover?

    • Reinstatement - delinquent mortgage payments including principal, interest, taxes and insurance, and other costs the servicer incurred in order to bring the loan current, or 
    • Forborne payments, or 
    • Deferred amounts.

    Am I eligible?

    You may be eligible for the Pilot Phase of HAF if:

    • Your property is located in the state of Connecticut and is your primary residence.
    • You currently earn an income. This can include Employment, Self-Employment or Business Income, Unemployment Benefits, Worker’s Compensation, Pensions, Annuities, Social Security Benefits, SSI Benefits, Veteran Benefits, Alimony or Child Support.
    • You can certify that you experienced a financial hardship after January 21, 2020 including but not limited to job loss, reduction of income or need to care for a family member.
    • You had been current on your loan as of January 21, 2020.
    • Your loan had a principal balance at or below the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s conforming loan limits for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at time of origination. Your servicer will be able to help you determine whether you meet this eligibility criteria.
    • Your 2020 income and 2021 income does not exceed 100% of the Area Median Income (“AMI”) per household size, for the respective year, as published by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”).

    How do I apply?

    • Verify that your servicer is participating in the Pilot Phase of HAF. (See above for a complete list of participating servicers.)
    • Gather the following documents and call your servicer.  Your servicer will help you through the application process:
      • Mortgage statement/forbearance/deferral info,
      • Social Security card(s),
      • Gov’t issue picture ID(s),
      • 2020 tax return(s) and acceptable documentation supporting 2021 year-to-date earnings, and
      • Most recent 8 weeks of pay stubs or other acceptable documentation to support your current income.

 

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • My mortgage delinquency started prior to January 21, 2020. Am I eligible for HAF?

    Some missed mortgage payments prior to January 21, 2020 may be eligible.  We encourage you to review the HAF Draft plan found here. You may be eligible for assistance through other programs and services offered by CHFA. Visit the Foreclosure Prevention Resources page on CHFA's website to explore other foreclosure prevention services available to assist with a delinquent mortgage.  

  • If I receive assistance under the Pilot Phase of HAF, am I also eligible for assistance under the full HAF program?

    You may qualify for additional assistance under the full HAF program. Please reapply when the program is available. 


  • What should I do if my servicer is not participating in the Pilot Phase of HAF?

    You may be eligible to apply for assistance under the full HAF program. Click here to sign up for an alert when the full program is available.

  • Can an eligible property be a multifamily home?

    Yes, as long as this home is the homeowner's primary residence and the homeowner is otherwise eligible for assistance.


  • Can a homeowner apply for assistance under the Pilot Phase for more than one property?

    An eligible homeowner can only apply for assistance for their primary home. Second homes, vacation homes or investment properties are not eligible for assistance under HAF.
